My Canine Kids

When you live with pets in your home, for some of us, they become like little people.

Each one has a personality of its own.

I hope when you finish your visit, you'll know a little about each one of My Canine Kids.

Gus

Dog Dumpers Ride Again

GusWe live in an area where the lowest form of humanity, Dog Dumpers, thrive. Every year I see several poor starving pets roaming the area in search of food and water. Would these people do this if they saw the end result of most pets that are abandoned? Probably! These are just a low class of people.

Well, this is how Gus came to us. He was just standing at the gate one day asking for help.

As often happens I couldn't resist opening the door and letting him into our lives.

The Eating Machine

GusWhen Gus first showed up, he weighed about 70 pounds. He was house trained and would even walk on a leash. He would eat anything that was put in front of him.

After we had him neutered, he began to gain weight. He also got taller and eventually weighed about 120 pounds. He looked like a Newfie - Great Pyr. cross, but we don't really know for sure. He was just a big boy.

He hated being in the house and we had to bribe him with food to get him to come in to sleep at night. That was even in the dead of winter.

He'd much rather be out in the elements than watching from the window.

Brush Me Please

Gus loved to be groomed. Pick up a brush and he was there. You could probably brush him until your arm fell off and he'd want you to continue with the other. He was doubled coated and seemed to shed the rain, cold and snow with no problems.

The Mystery

GusGus stayed with us for about 12 years.

One evening he refused to eat, which was entirely out of character.

He died during the night.

I think he was poisoned and it really hurts that I didn't recognize it in time to save his life.
