CPU Share

CPUYour computer has a CPU or Central Processing Unit.
If you run programs on your computer that use too much memory or overload the CPU, the computer freezes, slows down or locks up. We've all experienced it.

Well guess what? Your web host's server has a CPU.

On a shared web hosting account ( the ones you pay from $3 to $8 a month for ), you could be sharing a server with 500 or more other customers.

If 200 customers are running streaming video, sending bulk email, or running bad CMS scripts at the same time, the CPU gets overloaded and the server crashes.

Solution 'CPU Share'

If you are on a shared hosting account of any kind, your web host divides up the use of the CPU between existing customers and assigns a percentage of how much individual accounts can use.

If you exceed your limit, your website is shut down. Better than the whole server crashing!

On a typical shared web hosting account, your share of the CPU could be as little as 4 to 5%. Exceed it and your website stops working. If you exceed your CPU share, your web host can actually remove your website from his server. ( You'll find all this information in your user agreement, usually under fair access. )

Add a little streaming video, bulk email transmissions or poorly written scripts to your website and you'll exceed your CPU share with a minimum number of visitors to your website.

The restriction of CPU Share negates all false advertising about UNLIMITED web hosting.

I've read countless complaints against web hosts by morons, kicked off of servers, that think they should be able to run unlimted streaming video, bulk email and every other web 2.0 CPU EATING application known to man, on a basic shared hosting account. I repeat these complaints are written by morons.

Don't be a moron!

If you are planning a website that is going to have all of the interactive bells and whistles ( forums, message boards, blogs, live chat, bulk email newsletters , streaming video, etc.) , START OUT RIGHT!!

Don't build CMS sites or websites with multiple interactive or multi media features on shared hosting!!!

If you can't afford Dedicated web hosting ( $49 to $300/mon) or don't know how to set up and run a server, Choose semi-dedicated hosting. Some CPU shares on semi-dedicated are as high as 25%. Read the fine print.

*On semi-dedicated, you'll share the server with far fewer customers.

Shop around for the best price on semi-dedicated hosting.

We sell semi-dedicated hosting for $30 a month. The CPU share is 30%.
