Should you make a website for free?

Anyone can make a website for free!! We provide everything needed to do the job on this website. The real question that should be considered is Should I use free web hosting?

For newbies, hosting your website is the act of placing it on a web server where it can be accessed by your desired audience. For some this will be on a server connected to your company or school's network. For many it will be on a web server connected to the World Wide Web (WWW), your audience being the entire world.

A web host is a person or company that provides a web server connected to the WWW where you can store your finished web pages for viewing by your audience.

Prices for web hosting vary from $0 a month on up. The most costly web hosting is on dedicated web servers where you can lease an entire machine for your company. If the website is just something that was created for fun, then -no problem- go ahead and host it on free web space. Host it on Tripod Lycos, or Bravenet or on the web space that you get for free from your ISP.

But, if the website was made for a serious purpose, like selling a product or even if you want to try your hand at producing income through affiliate programs - BEWARE!

Websites hosted on free web space are very difficult to get indexed on the search engines. Some search bots won't even look at them. If you do host on free space then at least spend $7.95 on a domain name and link it to your free account.

Another draw back when hosting on free web space is the advertising. Some web hosts only use banners, which isn't too bad or distracting for your visitors. But other free web host providers will load your site with banners and pop up ads until they come out your ears.

Bandwidth usage for free web space is usually watched closely. Exceed the set limits for the month and your website could be placed on inactive status until the beginning of the next month.

Pay your $4.25 a month ($51US a year) and get some quality paid hosting. Once you get your traffic up to par you can add advertising of your own via fastclick or other less noticeable affiliate packages that will make that much back in a day.
