Hughesnet Satellite Internet
The Legal Scam

My Hughesnet High Speed Internet Connection is Running at 20kbps
My Netzero Dial Up is Running at 64kbps
The Bargain of a Lifetime for only $79.99/month

"All you need is a clear view of the southern sky!"

Oh yes, and there can't be any clouds.

And oh yes, I forgot to say it doesn't work when it rains or snows.

And you need to turn off Windows Update, cancel any software installations and never watch videos or listen to music.

Can't get high speed internet by dsl or cable?

Think long and hard before you consider Hughesnet satellite internet.

It cost 3 times as much for just a basic service.

Even buying the basic package ($59.99) will cost $79 a month for 24 months to pay for the worthless equipment.

It slows down when there is even a threat of rain and it doesn't even work when the weather is bad.

Combine that with a speed that is supposed to be the same as basic dsl , about 700kbps, but actually runs slower than Netzero's high speed dial up for many operations.

Hughesnet High Speed Satellite service makes a lot of claims, but delivers on none.

Watch too many videos or movie trailers and your speed drops off to 20kbps, even slower than dial up, for a 24 hour period.

Your bandwidth limit on a basic account is 200mb over a 24 hour period. Software upgrades like Windows Update, Norton or McAfee antivirus , that happen in the background without your knowledge can eat up your bandwidth in a hurry. Without warning your system drops down to 20kbps for 24 hours.

You can , however, get up at 3AM and perform your software updates without penalty!

Call to complain and you are told that your only alternative is to upgrade. Hell, you're already paying $79 for crap. Why would you want to pay more?

Not satisfied with the service and want to cancel. It will cost you $700 to quit. But, you can get a $200 credit if you return the worthless terminal.

Their 30 day Money Back Satisfaction guarantee is just a Boldfaced LIE!!

Spread the word. Hughesnet High Speed Satellite Internet is the JOKE of the century.

Even worse, it is a LEGAL SCAM.

I thought marrying my second wife was the biggest mistake of my life - That is Until I signed up for Hughesnet.

Update - July 2010

I've suffered through the 2 year contract with Hughesnet. At the end of this month my monthly charge should drop to $59.99 a month.

I still get so aggravated with Hughesnet that I turn it off and use my free NetZero dial up account. It is much faster for FTP operations when I'm editing websites and uploading a large number of pages.

I've looked for alternatives. We still don't have access to DSL. Our cell phones don't work in the house so I doubt we could go to something like Cricket wireless. I've read the forums about Wild Blue satellite and they seem to have the same problems as Hughesnet.

I've come to this to this conclusiion: You can live in the country with the animals and use dial up internet or you can live in the concrete jungle with the animals and enjoy the luxury of high speed internet.
